You can convert your audio recordings to 16 bit (sample size), 44.1 kHz (sample rate), and 1411 kbps (bit rate) stereo WAV files in iTunes by following the steps provided:
- Open iTunes.
- Search for the song(s) in your iTunes Music Library and highlight it (by clicking once on the song.
- Go to iTunes’ General Preferences
- Mac: From the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on iTunes > Preferences.
- PC: From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, click on Edit > Preferences.
- Mac: From the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on iTunes > Preferences.
- In the General Preferences tab, click on Import Settings, located towards the bottom.
- Click on the menu next to Import Using > WAV Encoder. Then click to change Setting > Custom and a new window will open.
- In the WAV Encoder window, change the Sample Rate to 44.100 kHz and Sample Size to 16-bit. Exit all windows by clicking OK until you are back to your iTunes library.
- With your song title(s) still highlighted, right click and select Create WAV. Your song(s) will immediately begin converting.
- If you have a newer version of iTunes, you may need to go to File > Convert > Create WAV Version - Once the song has finished converting, you will see that the highlighted song(s) is the old version. We recommend you relocate or save the newly converted file(s) (not highlighted) elsewhere such as your desktop so you will be able to find it later.
Note: If you are exporting from a recording program or importing the audio recordings from a CD (also called 'ripping'), you can change the settings/preferences of your export to be 16 bit (sample size), 44.1 kHz (sample rate), 1411 kbps (bit rate) stereo WAV files.
We strongly recommend that you convert your audio recordings to the required format using iTunes as this will ensure that your audio recordings are in the appropriate format for major music services and digital stores.
